I’m sorry to put up two picture entries in a row, but life, the Jeeps, work, and book sales are taking all my free time right now.

Sunday afternoon, the spud and I drove up to Burritt Museum on Montesano Mountain. Believe it or not, after having lived here for 22 years, I’d never been. It was pretty cool, and well worth the $5.00 (each) it cost us to get in.

For a synopsis of the place, go read this page and pretend I wrote it. That way, I can get right to the pictures.

A wishing well. It would’ve been neater if there wasn’t a big
electrical cord running into it to power the fountain.

The nature trail led to a massive cross. It’s hard to tell in this picture,
but that cross is 74 feet tall, with a 31-foot crossbeam.
The spud thought it would’ve been cool if this had been the
actual cross Jesus was on. Concrete and all.

Robyn would not have cared for the hike down,
and Tallulah the spud didn’t care for the hike back up.

The Burritt Mansion, which is shaped like the letter X. It’s
insulated with bales of hay, believe it or not.

The view from the front porch.

The sitting room

The dining room.

Buildings from the 1850’s were here.

The Gardiner cabin, in all its Little House glory.

Inside the Gardiner cabin. You can see the loft
where Half Pint slept at the top of the picture.

Inside another of the cabins.

Another room in the cabin pictured above.

I was bonding with some livestock here.
No, not like that, you pervert.

The most important building there.

Inside another building. All the old buildings smelled of woodsmoke.
It was oddly comforting.

Guess what?

I swear, this cabin had more rooms than our house.

See what I mean?

The Madison Baptist Church, from 1884, was also on the site.

After the museum, we drove to the scenic overlook on the back side of the mountain, where I took many pictures, which I’ve stitched into this single panoramic picture for your pleasure. Unfortunately, the trees are almost finished changing colors, or that picture would’ve been a lot cooler.

Why did you call the spud Tallulah? Beautiful pictures by the way! I love that era…

    Laura –

Because any time we do anything remotely exerting (like a short uphill hike), she turns into the world famous drama queen from Huntsville, Tallulah Bankhead. ;)

Ok, how come when I want to read comments from YESTERDAY’S entry, I get today’s instead? Tell me that, computer-man!
