Happy Cinco de Mayo.

“Do you like the show?” I asked the spud, sitting there on the second row during the intermission of last Saturday’s matinee of Les Miserables.

She nodded. “It’s not as sad as you said it would be.”

“That’s because everyone doesn’t die until the upcoming act.”

“Everyone?”

“Just about. The whole second act is full of shootings, suicide, and death from old age.”

She mulled this information over for a bit before speaking.

“Kind of like the beginning of the Great Depression, huh?”

At this point, I’d like to remind you that she contains none of my DNA.

Our buddy, Ted Rall, whom you may remember as the “artist” behind the “Terror widows” cartoon, has a new Pat Tillman cartoon available now, in case you haven’t seen it.

My God, I love the James Rollins books. Pure action, 100% mindless dick-lit. Two thumbs WAY up for Deep Fathom (so far, anyway; I’ve still got about 100 pages to go). They read wicked fast, too. They’re like beach books for guys.

Every time I read one of his books, I think, I could write something like this. I don’t think that often — certainly not with my mainstays like Steve King or Dean Koontz (both of whom have books coming out within the next month, by the way). I think when I finish Roxy off (which should be in the next week or two, not counting revising/editing) I’m going to think about putting together a more manly piece of fiction.

Then again, I might just go kayaking instead.

Oh, and while I’m thinking about it Big Trouble was also excellent. Much funnier than his second novel.

I’m the king of the world!

Fear the chicken-legs. Especially that gimpy one.

What’s the deal with the Pat TIllman cartoon? Are you sure this isn’t the same guy who wrote that sick piece in the student newspaper???

Yeah, that Tillman cartoon is ridiculous. Whatever your views on why we are over there, that is exactly like what people did to the men who fought in Vietnam- I doubt that cartoon would have been written if Tillman gave his life to save that guys ass.

For those of you who don’t know who he is, Ted Rall is a high-profile, liberal, editorial writer. I saw him on TV recently. After the Tillman cartoon came out, Bill O’Reilly had him on the O’Reilly Factor and really chewed him out at the end of the interview for being insensitive about Tillman’s death.

WOW, them are some pretty slim ankles you got there…. Are you gonna make the Bean wear a life vest when you take him Kayaking??

The Bean totally looks like he’s spraying your kayak in that first pic.
