Note: The offer below has ended. Thanks to all who contributed — a tally of the total donations collected will be put up in the next entry.

By now you’re aware — along with the entire planet — that over 116,000 people in southeast Asia are dead as a result of tsunamis caused by a massive earthquake last Sunday morning. Thousands of children are orphaned, millions are homeless, and billions of dollars in damage have been done.

And this is just the beginning. Over the next days and weeks, more trouble is coming in the form of death from things like cholera, malaria, dysentery, water-borne disease, and malnutrition.

Relief is pouring in from around the world, and as of this writing about $220,000,000 had been promised from various countries, a drop in the bucket against what will eventually be needed. Individual contributions are pouring in, too, from people like you and me.

Maybe you’re thinking about donating money but haven’t decided to. Maybe you don’t know where you want to send a donation. I want to make an offer to you fellow Americans.

Amazon is taking donations to go directly to the Red Cross for relief to the victims of this disaster. So far they’ve collected about $4,500,000. Every penny of this money is earmarked for victims of the earthquake.

Here’s my offer: if you’ll donate at least $25 to the Amazon Red Cross fund, I’ll send you a copy of my book, postage paid by me. To donate, click this link and follow the directions. Amazon will send you a confirmation email.

To claim your book, forward that entire confirmation email to me (it’ll show 5 digits of your credit card number, so feel free to edit that part out if it’s something you don’t want me to see. Not that I’d look, anyway.) using the address address removed, along with a mailing address where we should send the book.

Please note: I can only send the free books to U.S. addresses.

This offer is good until Sunday, January 9, 2005. Books will be shipped starting the next day, and you should get an email from me or Robyn with a tracking number when we send your book out.

Thank you, and have a safe new year.

Thanks Fred. I already made a donation to another group before I read this post. It warms my heart to hear of so many people in this world - with all the B.S. going on - that others really care about their fellow man.

I made my donation to Red Cross this morning through my local News channel here in the Detroit area. I have your book too :)
Thanks for the offer. You are a good man. If I didn’t love my husband so much, and you weren’t married to Robyn, I’d be wantin’ to marry you :) You’re one awesome guy.

Thanks Fred for the information and offer. I’ve been meaning to make a donation to the Red Cross but just hadn’t done it yet. Thanks for reminding me. Since I haven’t read your book yet, I will gladly accept a copy. You are good people.

We donated our Christmas money to Doctors Without Borders and plan to send more to the International Red Cross with our next paycheck. I feel for those who lost family, home, livelihood, entire villages. I have read that a large percentage of the people killed in the initial wave were children. So sad.

Fred, thanks for the link; I just made my donation. I, too, already have your book. You and Robyn are wonderful people for doing this.

What a great idea! Like so many others I planned to contribute but this made it so simple. I don’t have your book and will be looking forward to receiving it.

Thanks for doing something so good.

Thanks for the kind words, guys. Once I made my initial donation I got to thinking that this might be a way to get even more money available to the people there who need it.

You guys have raised almost $1000 so far, so thank YOU. :)

Great idea Fred! More companies should consider something along these lines. I donated to Red Cross Canada a few days ago. Already have your book. I can’t stop thinking about all the victims affected by this…but its nice to see everyone trying to do their part. All the best to you and your family!

    Hi Fred (and Robyn):

Thank you so much for posting this information on how to help. I’ve been out of town and haven’t had a chance to find out exactly where to send contributions. This link made it so easy.

I will be thrilled to accept a copy of your book. I never got around to ordering one, and assumed that you sold out after I stopped seeing the ordering info on your site.

Many blessings to you both in the coming year for all of the good that you do!

You guys are both totally awesome people! My hubby and I wanted to donate money as well as baby clothes, toys etc. needed.

Thanks for reminding me to DO IT today - I have not read your book but would love a copy. I already sent my info to you guys.

Have a very Happy New Year.

Thanks Fred, for the offer. I’m very impressed with your work to get others to help out. I’m going to donate anyway regardless. I don’t want to get anything for donating. But I think what you’re doing is awesome and I don’t disrespect anyone who takes you up on your offer either. I think anything to get us all motivated to help is a wonderful thing.

It warms my heart to both read how you are encouraging donations and giving so freely of yourself, and also reading your story. I am one of the many who has been planning to donate and hadn’t yet decided where and with whom. This finally gave me the push. I look forward to reading your book as well. Thank you for being such a genuine and good person.
