Adventures in freakdom.
May 19, 2005
After a week of my wife wheedling, cajoling, and begging me, I finally broke down and said, "Okay, but you have to agree that when the time is up, it’s up. We’re not keeping any of them."
My wife agreed, enthusiastically, and believe you me, she’ll be sticking to that agreement.
So I’m pleased to tell you we’re new parents again, for a limited time. Sort of.
Foster parents.

Five kittens from the local no-kill shelter, and their tiny spitfire mama.

My favorite picture.

Why won’t he let me sleeeeeeeeeep?

Peeking over Robyn’s leg.

Mama squints at the bright-ass flash.

What the fuck?

Checking out the camera, up close and personal.

One is flailing madly for balance, three are ignoring him.

The little girl stares intently at something while two of her
brothers look on and one sleeps.

Kitten toes!

Climbing over my size 12 foot. That should give you an idea of
just how small they are.

A whole passel of kittens, all in a pile.
Surprisingly, our cats aren’t interested in the slightest, unless we’re in there playing with them. Then they hover outside the door and make mama nervous.
It should be an interesting six weeks.
And the cool part? We get to name them since we’re fostering them.

Oh how you will EAT THOSE WORDS! You know you will keep at least one! I want the little tiger kittie with the orange on the face..PPPLLEEEEAAAAASSSSSSE?!?!??!!?
Heaven!
How adorable! Can I come down and pick up the white and grey???
Michelle, you can have them all in a few weeks if you want.
Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God is all I can think of to say!!! Soooooooo cuuuuuute!! Thanks for getting pics up so quick!
YER GONNA KEEP A KIIIIIIIIIITTEN! YER GONNA KEEP A KIIIIIIIIIIITTEN.
Anyone who’s seriously interested in adopting should know that it costs at least $75 to adopt (if the fee hasn’t gone up since we adopted Mister Boogers), and the cats will be neutered/ spayed when they hit 2 lbs, which can be anywhere from 8 to 12 weeks of age. We, of course, would give ‘em to you for free, but they don’t actually belong to us, they belong to the shelter, and the shelter won’t adopt them out before they’re fixed. Also, they’ll be microchipped!
How cute! They look about the same age as our four kittens! I’ve been wanting to show them to Robyn, but haven’t ever put together an email…guess I’ll pass along the link!
Oh, come on, Fred, you know it takes NOOOOOO time to fall in love…..especially when it’s with something lovey and soft and purry and pretty!!!! Keep a kitten! I have to live vicariously through you guys, since I think a single woman who has any more than TWO cats can just kiss marriage goodbye!!
Oh my God! KITTENS! I’ve never had a kitten, only cats. They’re SO cute! You and Bessie are such good parents!
Aw,God bless’em and YOU for taking them in !
)
Oh, they are so ADORABLE!!!!! You have a way with kitties and cameras.
Betcha can’t keep just one . . .
They’re beautiful! You’re a good photographer—you got some great shots. I’m surprised your other cats aren’t more curious, the mama must have told them to keep away!! Thanks for sharing the photos, keep them coming.
How can you NOT keep that little, mostly white, with the dot on it’s nose one? Please, please?
I can’t believe the other cats aren’t wondering WTF! Seems like they would!
Cute cute cute for sure
A Kitten Caboodle, fur sure.
So Fred, which one have you picked out?? You know ya wanna…
Fostering isn’t all that bad. I fostered a litter of 6 puppies. I won’t go into the details of how I ended up with one of them… *ahem*
But really, letting them go isn’t as hard as you imagine. It was a bit of a relief to know that the puppies had found good, safe homes.
I want one!
You’ll have a blast and probably have no trouble letting go. You’ll be giving them up right as they enter the teenage phase as I call it. They will be hyper little fluffy demons at that point
Besides the added litter box mess of 5 kittens and a mommy cat gets pretty big. By that point sending them back is a bit of a relief.
I’ve fostered over 100 kittens for our local humane societ, so I should know.
I call it kittens forever. You get to play with kittens until they are old enough and healthy and you give them back before they are cats.
I have 5 4.5 week old kittens and a mom cat myself right now.
