Adventures in freakdom.
Monday, I finished reading Stephen King’s new book, Cell. It was flat out 100% awesome.
Tuesday night, I had a nightmare. In it, aliens had taken over the world and were lining up humans at processing facilities to be “converted” to the alien life form. In the midst of a violent escape with two other humans, I clawed my way to wakefulness, panting, my heart racing in my chest.
Wednesday night, I had a nightmare. I woke terrified at 2:48, hearing the moans of tormented people. I remember nothing about the dream. I worked out at 3:15 because I couldn’t get back to sleep.
Last night, I had a nightmare. In it, I was at work, and called to a customer site for an emergency meeting. When I entered the conference room, a customer/friend who died suddenly three weeks ago was waiting there for me. And not in the joyous “I never really died, I’m still alive” way that some dreams about people who’ve died are. I jerked myself awake, still feeling the cold fingers on my throat.
All this leads me to say — seriously heartfelt, without my normal dry humor (sometimes it’s hard to tell with me) intervening — thank you, Mr. King, for returning to your roots. You have no idea how much it’s like having an old friend back.

I’ll never forget the nightmares I had the night after I finished Pet Semetary. I woke up in a panic with flashing red lights all around - turns out my grandfather had gotten sick and they had to call an ambulance. Freakiest dream I’ve ever had to date.
Funny you should mention that, Michelle, because I was going to say that the person in my dream was more like the Pet Semetary back-from-the-grave than the happy-go-lucky kind, but I decided probably not many people would know just what I meant.
My dream last night was definitely of the Pet Semetary sort.
Well, now I can’t wait to read “Cell”. And Pet Semetary was flat-out the scariest book I’ve ever read. I had to put it down in the middle for two weeks before I could finish it. Great puzzle, too!
My big mistake was picking up Pet Semetary when I should have been studying for finals. I couldn’t put it down and got a C on my Cost Accounting test. Big thanks Stephen King! That was the last book of his I read, but now I’ll have to get Cell. Love the puzzle too. Sugarbutt is so cute there.
Best. Puzzle. EVER!
Wow! How cool is that!? Great puzzle.
Wow - love the puzzle! I need to do that with my cats. My kids would love it! I bet Robyn luvs it!
Great puzzle. Are you going to have it framed?
Haven’t decided yet.
I keep picking up the book and putting it back down. I’m not sure my relationship with Mr. King will ever be the same after DreamCatchers. Does this book have aliens escaping from anyone’s colon? Cause I really didn’t go for that at all.
No colon critters in this book. It’s an homage - he dedicates the book to George Romero and Richard Matheson, two greats in the horror world. Without revealing too much, think “zombies”. That’s not exactly the plotline, but similar.
Aww, how cute is that puzzle?
I have “aliens have taken over the earth” dreams every so often, pretty much out of the blue apart from the fact that I probably watch too much sci-fi network stuff. They’re pretty dreadful, really. I end up spending half the night waking up, falling back to sleep, and having the dream pick up more or less where it left off, usually involving my being involved with some group of people trying to escape and being hunted down at great length.
Have the kitties sat on the puzzle yet? For me, “The Stand” was the scariest book. Could not sleep for a few nights after that one.
so, where is the puzzle from? I’d love to get one with my furball.
Look closely at the 3rd pic.
I’ve almost bought Cell a couple of times, now I’ll have to get it. I actually threw away (I don’t throw away books - EVER) Night Shift in high school, one of those stories freaked me out beyond words back then, and I keep thinking that I’m going to retry it. I’m a coward though, and haven’t.
Sweet - you have the same countertop as us ;^) Oh yeah, nice pussy.
I agree, lots of nice pussy there. That’s actually a camping table, though, not a countertop. I use it for the puzzles because I can set it up in front of the couch and put it away when I’m done.
It and The Shining did it for me. Clowns, God I hate those damn things and I’ve never been able to look at shubbery and not wonder when they’re gonna start chasing me.
oh, it’s on the kitchen counter? for some reason, i thought the pics were taken on a hunk of astroturf, ala’ brady bunch.
Lee: oh, it’s on the kitchen counter?

loved the puzzle
Love the puzzle and think you should frame it too. Framing puzzles is tacky to some people but this is a personalized one and that’s different. heh
I just finished it last week too, and my husband was getting really annoyed at the gasps as I would wake up from a nightmare. Good book.
I’m definitely going to have to put this on my wish list. And cute puzzle, Fred.
Oh, and Mia? We all float down here.
